SCRAPE COLLECTION

2020

The Scrape Collection explores the integration of the two different logics of industrial manufacturing and natural creation. Luo Dai Shi used clay to paint, replacing clay with copper through the ancient bronze casting process, creating a new sculpture "painting". Based on this form, she uses her original method to stimulate the growth of copper skin, which color and texture spontaneously grow like leaves. Each brush stroke is filled with countless details of color, ever-changing.

The erased brush strokes reveal the great invention of industrial manufacturing -- mirrored stainless steel. The above two different materials are the products of industrial manufacturing and natural creation, as well as the collision between ancient and contemporary, natural and artificial. Through wiping a mirror, which is a common unconscious action of human beings, Daishi skillfully translates it into her creation, hoping to explain the thinking related to all of this in a relaxed and humorous way.
